Auction
The annual Auction is Heritage’s biggest fundraiser of the year, and one of its most fun. A silent auction of goods and services is accompanied by good food and drink, and entertainment for the entire family. The evening is capped off with a live auction of selected items and is guaranteed to provide plenty of laughs. The annual auction is one of Heritage’s “don’t miss” events.

Used Book Sale
This annual event benefits the Clara Barton Guild. Members and friends donate books to a two-weekend sale open to the church community and the Cincinnati community. Our last sale, held October 21 and 28, 2007 raised $500 for Heritage.
This year’s sale will be held on Sunday, December 7; Saturday, December 13; and Sunday, December 14. The Saturday sale is open to the public.
Bring in your extra gently used books—paperbacks, hard cover, kids’ books, and CDs are all welcome.
For more information on this event, please contact Julie Kane. |

Kroger Gift Card
If you’re already a Kroger shopper, this fundraiser is as close to a no-brainer as you can get. When you use a Kroger gift card from Heritage to pay for your purchases, Heritage will receive a rebate of 4-6% of the total amount.
Here’s how it works: Purchase a Kroger gift card from Heritage for $5. This gift card will be loaded with $5, so you aren’t paying anything extra. The next time you go to Kroger, recharge (add value to) your gift card at the Customer Service counter or at any register. Then, use the gift card to pay for your purchases. You can recharge the card as many times as you like.
Your gift card can be used for all of the items you purchase at Kroger: groceries, prescriptions, gas. It can even be used in other merchants, like Starbucks, who are located inside Kroger stores. And, when gift-giving season comes around, don’t forget that Kroger is your one-stop shopping destination for other’s gift cards, too.
You can purchase your Kroger gift card from Denise Martinez. Using it takes just a few extra minutes of your time, but the payoff for Heritage can be big. |

Recycling Program
Heritage collects recyclable waste paper in our Abitibi bin, located at the end of our parking lot, to promote recycling and to raise funds for the Church. Bring your newspaper, magazines, catalogues, office and school papers, and junk mail to church and earn money for Heritage. For more information, contact the Heritage Green Team. |

Selling on eBay
eBay has a selling arm for nonprofits called eBay Giving Works that partners with MissionFish, a service that certifies nonprofits and processes donations. MissionFish ensures that nonprofits listed on the site are legitimate and provides an avenue for the nonprofit to sell items directly, or to accept donations from other eBay sellers.
eBay claims that items sold through eBay Giving Works receive more hits and tend to sell at higher prices, because buyers are more willing to purchase (and will often pay more for) items that benefit a nonprofit. Heritage has been certified by MissionFish and is now able to accept donations from your eBay auctions.
How can you help? If you have items that you intend to sell on eBay, you can choose to donate part of your sale to Heritage. While you are listing your item, indicate that you would like to donate a percentage of your sale. Then, pick Heritage Universalist Unitarian Church from the list of nonprofits on the popup window and select a percentage to donate. Your item will receive a special ribbon icon and get additional visibility through a specialized search engine that’s reserved exclusively for eBay Giving Works listings.
In turn, after your item sells, eBay will rebate back the Insertion and Final Value Fees to you, equal to the percentage of your donation. For example, if you wish to donate 50% of your selling price, eBay rebates 50% of the fees. You receive additional exposure, a potentially higher selling price, reduced eBay fees, and a tax receipt for your donation. Best of all, Heritage receives a monetary donation. HUUC is currently one of only a few Unitarian churches listed on MissionFish, putting our church at the forefront of modern fundraising techniques. |

GoodSearch Internet Search Engine
GoodSearch.com is the search engine with a unique social mission. It’s powered by Yahoo!, so you get the same great search results, but each time you do a search, GoodSearch makes a donation to Heritage. They donate 50% of their advertising revenue to the nonprofits and schools selected by users, which averages to about one cent per search. One cent may not seem like much, but GoodSearch estimates that an organization the size of Heritage can make about $1000 a year just by using their search engine. There is no cost to Heritage or to users to use the search engine.
What do you need to do to make money for Heritage? Just go to the GoodSearch website and enter “Heritage Universalist Unitarian Church” in the area marked “Who do you GoodSearch for?” Then click “Verify”. Use the search engine at the top of the page to search the internet. Remember, it’s powered by Yahoo!, so you can count on great search results. And, if your computer allows cookies, Heritage will automatically come up as your charity of choice every time you use GoodSearch. (If your computer does not allow cookies, be sure and select Heritage each time.) |

GoodShop
GoodShop.com is the new online marketplace that donates a percentage of your online purchase to the charity of your choice. You can choose from hundreds of popular online merchants, like eBay, Amazon, Best Buy, Lands End, Target, and Barnes and Noble. The experience of shopping through GoodShop is the same as going to the retailer directly, with no increase in price.
When you are ready to shop, visit the GoodShop website and enter “Heritage Universalist Unitarian Church” in the area marked “Who do you GoodShop for?” Then click “Verify”. Follow the links to shop at your favorite online stores. If your computer allows cookies, Heritage will automatically come up as your charity of choice every time you use GoodShop. (If your computer does not allow cookies, be sure and select Heritage each time.) |
