Children are an important part of our community, and children of all ages are always welcome in worship.
On most Sundays, children begin the morning in the sanctuary with the whole congregation. Our service often includes a Time for All Ages — a story or reflection connected with the theme of the day.
After that, children who are participating in Sunday faith development leave together for age-appropriate programming. Children are also welcome to remain with their families for the entire service.
We currently offer Sunday programming for preschool-age children, ages 2 – 5, during the worship hour.
School-age children, generally grades 1–8, learn together in a one-room schoolhouse model. Activities are designed so children of different ages can participate, learn from one another, and take on different roles as they grow.
If you’re new to Heritage, there’s no formal check-in process. Most families begin by coming into the sanctuary together.
If your child would like to join the children’s program after the Time for All Ages, we’ll help you connect with the adults leading that morning’s activities and make sure you know where they’ll be.
After the service, parents and caregivers should pick up their children in the Great Hall or the designated classroom for that morning.
Babies and young children are welcome in the sanctuary — wiggles, noises and all.
Families who would be more comfortable stepping out for a while may use our Family Lounge, just down the hall from the sanctuary. It includes toys, a changing table, and a screen where you can continue to see and hear the service.
Our children and youth programs are designed to help young people build relationships, explore values, ask questions, and grow into their own understanding of what matters.
