Protecting democracy through education, advocacy, and public action

Heritage’s Democracy Action Team brings together members and friends who want to take organized action in support of democratic institutions, voting rights, civil liberties, and accountable government.

The team plans and supports opportunities for people to put their values into practice through peaceful, nonpartisan civic engagement.

What We Do

Depending on current needs and opportunities, the Democracy Action Team may:

  • organize or participate in vigils, rallies, and peaceful protests;
  • coordinate letter-writing and phone campaigns;
  • share opportunities to contact elected officials;
  • host educational programs and discussions;
  • connect people with community organizations working to protect democracy;
  • help the congregation respond to significant threats to democratic norms and institutions.

Heritage has a long-standing emphasis on ethical action in public life, and recent church communications have highlighted participation in nonviolent democracy-related events and advocacy.

Our Commitment to Democracy

In 2025, the Heritage Board adopted a resolution affirming the congregation’s commitment to defending democracy.

Get Involved

You do not need prior advocacy experience to participate. Some people join public events; others write, call, learn, organize, or help behind the scenes.
